About Beyond Restrictions

Penny (Trainee Therapy Dog)

Beyond Restrictions grew by walking alongside families, not over them. By training teams, not blaming them.

By sitting in the hard moments and asking better questions.

  • Why is this happening?

  • What does this person need?

  • What do we need to change around them?

Every plan, every training session, every conversation is grounded in respect, safety, and the belief that people do well when they can.

Today, Beyond Restrictions is more than a service. It is a movement toward ethical, human-centred practice. We work with participants, families, and teams to build skills, confidence, and understanding. We focus on capacity building, trauma-informed care, and practical strategies that actually work in real life. We don’t just respond to behaviour — we create environments where behaviour no longer needs to escalate to be heard.

At its core, Beyond Restrictions is about freedom. Freedom from unnecessary limits. Freedom to learn, grow, connect, and belong. And a commitment to always go further, think deeper, and do better — for the people we serve and the teams who support them.

Our Story

Beyond Restrictions was born from a simple but powerful belief: people are not the problem, and behaviour is communication.

It began with frustration at a system that too often focused on control, compliance, and limitation. Too many individuals were being boxed in by labels, restrictive practices, and low expectations.

Families were exhausted.

Support workers were undertrained.

And the voices of the people most impacted were being lost in paperwork and processes. Beyond Restrictions was created to challenge that.

From the beginning, the vision was different. Not just behaviour support, but real change. Support that looks beyond the behaviour and into the person, their environment, their trauma, their strengths, and their goals. Support that actively works to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices, not justify them. Support that empowers participants to have choice, dignity, and a life that feels like their own.

Beyond Restrictions Values

Courage

We speak up when something isn’t right. We advocate fiercely, ask the hard questions, and make decisions that prioritise safety, dignity, and long-term outcomes — even when it’s uncomfortable.

Accountability

We take ownership of our work, our decisions, and our impact. We follow through, reflect honestly, and hold ourselves and each other to high professional and ethical standards.

Connection

We build genuine, respectful relationships with participants, families, and stakeholders. We listen first, meet people where they are, and value trust, consistency, and collaboration.

Integrity

We do the right thing, not the easy thing. Our practice is evidence-based, transparent, and aligned with regulatory, ethical, and human-rights frameworks.

Excellence

We reject “good enough.” We commit to continuous learning, reflective practice, and high-quality behaviour support that delivers meaningful, measurable outcomes.

Respect

We honour the lived experience, culture, identity, and autonomy of every person. We work alongside people, not over them, and uphold dignity in every interaction.

Heart

We bring compassion without ego and professionalism without losing our humanity. We care deeply, maintain boundaries, and show up consistently for those who rely on us.
